Survarium for PC is an MMOFPS game set in a post-apocalyptic world. This is the debut production of the Ukrainian company, Vostok Games. The studio was founded core team responsible for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series who left the ranks of GSC Game World after the suspension of work on the second game in the series.

Story

The action takes place in the near future and takes players to a post-apocalyptic reality. The authors demonstrated a considerable inventiveness and presented a vision of a world in which the collapse of human civilization was not caused by a nuclear war but the mother nature. Metropolitan areas and entire countries buckled under the pressure of rapidly spreading forests, plants, and enraged animals. Homo sapiens species lost the position of the unquestioned master of Earth's ecosystems.

Gameplay

Survarium for PC belongs to the genre of MMOFPS, although there are also strong RPG elements. The authors did not offer one large world in which thousands of people run around the map. Instead, during every mission, each group of players gets their own separate session (instance mechanism similar to that known from Guild Wars). At the same time, the numbers of groups were reduced to ensure that the levels do not become overpopulated. This creates the special atmosphere of being hunted known from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series. What is more, during missions the teams are often forced to spread out and perform tasks on their own.

The game’s universe is full of dangers. During the adventures, the players encounter, among others, traps, anomalies, and mutants. Just like in S.T.A.L.K.E.R, the world is inhabited by various factions which, however, cannot be joined. The players can, however, form their own clans. Survarium offers a rich story layer which is discovered during PvE missions. Elements of survival and virtual economy play a huge role. The creators remained faithful to the post-apocalyptic atmosphere so the emphasis is put mainly on barter trade rather than shopping. There is also a reputation system present that takes into account not only the bad deeds, but also situations in which the players have helped others.

Other information

The game, released for PC, is free and utilizes micropayments. Most of the gameplay elements are available also to the players who did not spend even a penny. There are several types of weapons available only for the paying fans but they do not provide any significant advantage in combat. The creators of Survarium used their own engine which provides full simulation of bullet ballistics and high-quality lighting and reflections, apart from nice views.
