The publisher is the one that handles all the money, all the developer will see is just a paycheck at the end of the week for the work they put into the game, doesn't matter how well the game sells.The impression I got from your post was that money gained via the cash shop is handled differently than the money gained from sales/subscriptions. The reality is the publisher will put on pressure to penny pinch the consumer any way they can to maximize their return on investment.

I see the cash shop as a benefit (in a no P2W scenario) because people pay to look pretty where I just want to play the game, otherwise the publisher will still penny pinch me with a subscription or a increase in box sale price. Of course, it's not perfect with WoW yet again being my example, Activision raised the price of WoD up to $50 making it the most expensive WoW expansion to date. That is in addition to a cash shop and also the subscription.
